Education

Judith E. Cohn, M.A., O.T.R./L, C-SIPT  received her B.A. degree from New York University with a major in psychology.  She continued her graduate studies at New York University obtaining her M.A. degree in Occupational Therapy in 1976.  As part of the masters program in Occupational Therapy Judith completed affiliations at Cabrini Hospital for psychiatry, Rusk Institute for spinal cord injury, and at United Cerebral Palsy of New York.

 

Employment History and Responsibilities

Judith is a licensed and registered Occupational Therapist in both New York State and Connecticut. She has practiced in a multitude of settings.  Her breadth of experience has ranged from hospital based rehabilitation to school based Occupational Therapy as well as homecare for children and adults. At the Veteran’s Administration Hospital Judith practiced in the physical disabilities clinic, set up Occupational Therapy programs in the Day Hospital and in the drug rehabilitation unit. She also became very proficient running a very extensive ADL clinic. Judith has also practiced in therapeutic preschools and in early intervention. Her extensive private homecare practice in Manhattan was facilitated through affiliations with hospitals and private health care practitioners.  She has set up Occupational Therapy programs in various facilities, functioned as acting chief on a rotation basis, supervised preclinical and affiliating students and mentored new therapists. She has provided in-service training to staff and lectured extensively on the various facets and functions of O.T. to high school and college students, interdisciplinary team members, visitors from abroad as well as parents.

 

Continuing Education

Judith has always had a passion for learning and self-improvement. She consistently attends continuing education courses and seminars to keep abreast of cutting edge research, evidence-based practice and techniques. A brief listing of  courses that Judith has attended consists of: Sensory Integration Certification, Certified Irlen® Screener for Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome©, Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) courses and labs, courses at Westchester  Medical Center   in  Assistive Technology, “Handwriting Without Tears”, Wii-hab as well as Home Modifications for patients with physical and Neurological Disabilities.
